Gutter Downspouts Draining Near House

What it is:

Your downspouts are the pipes that extend down from your rain gutters, taking the water off your roof line and directing it to the ground. It’s recommended that these downspouts empty out at least 6 feet away from your home’s foundation to avoid water damage.

What it means:

Sometimes, these downspouts dump the water too close to your home, which could cause foundational damage or basement leaks. Pooling water resulting from improper drainage is also a breeding ground for mosquitoes, mold, and other unwanted pests.

How to fix it:

Buy downspout extensions for any downspouts that are draining near your home. These extensions come in a variety of lengths and styles to fit your specific spouts. A second option is to install a rain barrel underneath your downspouts.
